Spiced Plums

One of our favourite "fast and delicious" recipes - spiced plums are a lovely dessert, especially in autumm. Try them over vanilla ice cream or thick yoghurt.

Spiced Plums

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 500g plums (Victorias, Blaisdons)
  • 150ml water
  • 4 tbsps caster sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken in two
  • 2 star anise

Method:

  1. Either de-stone the plums first or cook with stones (easier), just be careful of your teeth!
  2. The amount of sugar you add will depend on the ripeness and sweetness of the plums, for tart plums double the sugar.
  3. Place the plums in a saucepan with the water, sugar and spices. Simmer gently, until the plums are soft. You want to end up with a lovely thick syrupy sauce surrounding the plums.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and star anise before serving.
  5. Serve warm or cold.
