Craft Beer Evening & Tasting Notes

Craft Beer Evening with Chris Scullion from Independent Spirit of Bath

Friday 9th October, Great Bath Feast

What an evening! Twenty-eight people came to hear Chris from Independent Spirit of Bath share his knowledge of local beers and enjoy our rustic canapés. Great teamwork! We made canapés on local Bertinet Bakery sourdough and French white baguettes with these toppings:

Chris was the highlight of the evening, though. He is such an enthusiastic, knowledgeable speaker with a great sense of humour. There was lots of laughter as the beer flowed! The beers were all locally brewed with Electric Bear being the newest brewery in Bath. Everyone scored each beer: some were loved, others had the marmite effect, and the weirdest one from Wild Beer Co was brewed with preserved lemons and was both sour and salty!

All the beers below can be purchased from his shop, which is below the cookery school. And he has hundreds more to choose from! We are planning more craft beer and home brewing events, so keep an eye on our upcoming classes. You can also follow our happenings on Facebook and Twitter.

Celt Experience

Silures 4.6%

Citra, Simcoe and Centennial hops adjusted with sweet Munich malt and locally foraged pine tips. Tropical fruity aroma and the addition of pine or spruce to beer adds a fresh, bright aroma and a pleasant crispness.

Bristol Best, 4%

From Dawkins who are only based in Timsbury and multi award winning SIBA brewers. This is a recipe from the sixties which is a classic best bitter style. Very smooth and well rounded.

Gold 4%

A very refreshing session blonde beer. Well balanced with English malt and Bramling Cross hops for a fruity ale.

Electric Bear

Edison, 4.8%

A Czech style pilsner. Clean crisp with classic Czech hops for a very fresh aroma.

Wild Beer Co

Ninkasi, 9%

Named after the ancient Greek goddess of beer, this is an equally divine Belgian-style Saison with a copious amount of New Zealand hops, freshly harvested Somerset apple juice and wild yeast. Once bottled, it undergoes a secondary champagne yeast fermentation making it something even more spectacular.

Sleeping Lemons, 3.6%

L'hamd Marakad, the Moroccan for preserved lemon, literally translates as Sleeping Lemons. Lemons preserved in salt and lemon juice throughout the winter brewed into a Gose. Gose, a once almost extinct style, is a traditional German-style sour wheat beer, usually brewed with coriander and salt.
