The Kitchen Skills Classes are perfect for the novice cook or those who want to build their confidence in the kitchen. 

Course Details

Our Kitchen Skills Classes are a way to master a new skill or perfect one that needs a little help! The best way to improve you cookery and your diet is to improve your basic skills. If you can chop quickly and safely dishes take far less time to prepare and are less daunting. Successful pastry and bread making skills are essential if you want to cook your own rather than relying on shop bought goods. Even with the best cookery book nothing can compare to learning hands on and with our classes you will have an experienced chef to show you the tips and tricks of the trade.

There are 5 Kitchen Skills Classes to choose from: Knife Skills, Stocks and Sauces, Cooking with Grains, Pastry Making and Bread Making. Each class costs £65 and you can book them separately. If you book all five classes you will receive a 20% discount.

Sauces and Stocks

Homemade vegetable stock is the key to making many vegetarian dishes taste delicious. We will make a classic vegetable stock and show you how this can be adapted to make an Asian Stock for quick Ramen style soups. Our chefs will take you through the essentials of making mayonnaise as well as béchamel and classic sauces which will complement numerous dishes at home.

The classes include a delicious meal which you will have made and a glass of organic wine or local juice. You will receive a pack of recipes and tips at the end of the class. The classes are relaxed and enjoyable with lots of hands on cookery and help from our experienced Demuths chefs.

    About the tutor

    Lydia is one of our lead chef/tutor and specialises in World cooking and baking and teaches on all our longer Diploma courses.

    Lydia comes from a food loving family and learnt to cook from an early age with her Chinese mother. She has spent all her working life involved with food. She is an experienced and gifted baker. Her sourdough starter is the stuff of legends and we always have a jar tucked away at the back of the fridge. Lydia is an excellent teacher, with a wealth of knowledge and creativity to impart alongside a warm and approachable personality.
